New Song

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

Since the more up-tempo material is drawing attention, I pulled together a new track tonight that will be fun to play live and had me dancing in the studio. Kinda Baba O’Reilly meets Underworld.

So I’ve got six working tracks at the moment:

1) Ghost- Spooky, jazzy, mid-tempo
2) Android Cat Dreams Of Mice- Down-tempo, chillout
3) Fences- Hip Hop
4) Groove Rhodes- Down-tempo, chillout
5) Night Shift At The Baby Robot Nursery- Ultra down-tempo, instrumental
6) New song mentioned above (working title Save Your Life)

I can’t wait to see which direction the vocalists want to take the songs. And what tunes stay in the mix.

Collaboration

Friday, December 30th, 2005

The search for vocalists has begun. An ad in Creative Loafing. Networking on MySpace. And just reaching out to a freestyle rapper I know. Several responses so far, some interested, some not. The Loaf ad runs for two weeks.

Of the interested ones, the “Ghost” track is rising to the top. Uptempo, a little spooky. That is the one that was crying out for vocals.

Finding bandmates, and vocalists in particular, has got to be the hardest part of getting a band together. Not only is it just difficult to find people with the talent and experience to be in a band in the first place, but both music and personalities have got to click. Allowing a space to develop where everyone can get into the mood or the spirit of the band, actually contribute to making it real, that is the trick. This started as a solo thing, but it needs to be a band thing now.
